Beat the heat during your big day with a wedding dress that isn’t full of puffy layers and extra weight. Wearing a dress with lighter material, such a chiffon or silk, will be beneficial in the warm weather.

Having a little extra skin showing is another great way to stay cool at your summer wedding. Pair that with a light material dress and you’ll be dancing the night away all while staying fresh and cool!

The Minimalist Story

We were inspired by the gardens and architecture of this late 1800's historical home nestled next to the Emily Dickinson homestead in the heart of Amherst, Massachusetts. The house and surrounding grounds helped us create a space where we could incorporate the unique elements of softness, texture and romance.

Our vision for this seasonal shoot was to embrace a balance of nature's elegance and feminine romance. We created a soft design with hues of creams, greys and blues, a palette that softened our base of earth textures; wood, succulents and ivy.

melaniezacekphotography-0043-edit.png

While touring the grounds we decided to set our table beneath the canopy of a gorgeous old tree, whose low hanging branches created a stunning backdrop. Our table was a mix of wood, bark and succulents softened by accents of gold and sweeping fabric. It was the type of setting would make any guest linger in their seat to absorb the surroundings and details.

Our bride was styled in a beautiful lace BHLDN gown and elegant accessories. Her hair was simply done and her soft makeup with a hint of pink lip was all this bride needed to allow her stunning lace dress to take center stage.

The setting was dreamy, and perfect for a lush, cascading bouquet filled with Dogwood, roses, peonies, the first sight of dahlias and on-site greenery designed by Flowers by Justine.

From the elegant invitation with its perfect velvet envelope, the earth inspired cake with its handmade details of succulents and grapevine, to the beautiful balance of nature and romance, the new Minimalist Bride is defined.

Your wedding day is a day filled with love and being surrounded by your loved ones. With that being said…why not include your favorite furry friend into your wedding day?! From fun portraits to walking down the aisle, you’ll love sharing this special day with your pet!

In addition to pet portraits while getting ready on your wedding day, another fun idea is to incorporate your pet into your engagement pictures!

One way to incorporate your pet into your wedding day is during the ceremony. If you can train your pet, it can stand in place of the flower girl or ring bearer. Another alternative is to have your pet at the alter with you and your loved one while you say “I do!”

If the venue you picked is not pet-friendly, you can still include your furry friend in your day! Have the photographer document moments with you and your pet while you get ready for your wedding!

What Wedding Registry is Right for You?

One big step in planning your wedding is to also plan and design your registry. While there are many useful sites out there to help you with your registry check list, it is also important to decide on which type of registry platform best suits you: Home goods, Honeymoon, or Charity Donations!

In need of some new kitchenware or towels? One of the most common registry platforms is a home goods registry where the couple is able to create a list of items for their home (either current or future home together) that their guests can purchase. This is a great way to decorate and get those home essentials that may be out of your budget after your big day!

Another common registry platform is charity donations. If you and your significant other have a charity or two that you cherish, have your guests contribute donations instead of giving gifts! As they say, nothing gives more than the gift of giving!

Instead of having guests bring gifts for your home, having a honeymoon registry is a great way for your guests to contribute to your travel funds! Aside from cash to fund the honeymoon, there are many options for travel gifts, such as the plane tickets, booking a dinner for the two of you, or reserving a spot in a snorkeling class or tour! Having a honeymoon registry will take the stress out of some planning, and you can focus more on your wedding day!

With your big day coming to an end, it’s time to embark on your honeymoon! While it’s more popular to travel outside of the U.S. to a tropical island, there are also many places to visit and celebrate your marriage within the states. One hotspot for a honeymoon getaway is Charleston, SC. With its southern charm and beautiful beaches, this town is hard to pass up!

There are countless cute and charming hotels in the Charleston area! We recommend finding a hotel that is near the heart of the town. There are boutiques and restaurants within walking distance, romantic horse drawn carriage rides through the streets, and so much more. The Planters Inn is a great choice! With its elegant architecture and romantic charm, you can’t go wrong with spending your honeymoon with your sweetheart here!

You’ve picked your dress and your shoes, and now’s the time to focus on how to style your hair for your wedding day! There are a variety of hairstyles for all lengths, including using accessories or just going solo. Once you have your options in mind, it’s important to decide what style to focus on: up-do, half up, or all down.

Don’t want your hair getting in the way? Opt for an up-do! There are many classic ways to pull your hair back for your wedding day. Whether it be a simple, modern twist or up with a few stray curls, your hair will look fabulous and chic! Spruce your do up with some flowers, hair pins, or braids.

Still want your hair away from your face, but want to enjoy it being down? Having a half-up do is the perfect choice! You can let your hair loose all while keeping it intact and out of your face. Either pin it back with a hair pin or utilize braids and braid half back. The accessories and options are endless!

Let your hair down! Whether you have short or long hair, embrace those locks, let go, and have fun! Go simple with subtle waves, keep your hair straight, or even swoop it off to the side with a hair piece. Whatever you choose, you’ll look fabulous!

Creative Ways to Pop the Question

One of the most stressful and exciting days, aside from your wedding day, is the day you decide to propose to your significant other! With a once in a lifetime chance, you want this proposal to be perfect and memorable for the both of you.

Take your loved one to your favorite place, one that is special for the both of you. By proposing at, let’s say, your favorite park, restaurant, or beach, it will make that place even more special!

To make it very public for everyone to see, try having a skywriter spell out your proposal in the sky, or have a plane with a banner trailing along asking the big question!

Have a flash mob or a public band/choir to help build up the excitement of asking your significant other to spend the rest of your life with you!

Want a more sentimental and private proposal? Go to where you two had your first date together! It will make that day and place incredibly sweet and special!

Send your lover on a scavenger hunt using notes and clues that include memories, inside jokes, and photos of you both. The overall hunt will tell your love story, and end in a proposal!

Similar to a scavenger hunt, leave little love notes around your house for them to find, leading up to you with the ring!

Top Trending Fashion for Grooms

Step aside, brides! It’s time to let your man shine in today’s top trending fashion for grooms! Whether it’s straying away from the traditional black tuxedo or adding different accessories to their attire, you’ll definitely want to say, “I do” the second you see him!

It’s the year of colors for us ladies, and that goes for men as well! As opposed to wearing a traditional black tuxedo, groom’s fashion trends are leaning toward different shades of blues, grays, and even burgundy for their tuxes! Blue and burgundy tuxes look great with brown leather accessories, and you can pair just about any color with a gray tux (especially a colored tie to get that bold contrast)!

To spruce up your suit on your big day, try adding some simple accessories that will wow your bride-to-be! A big trend today is adding suspenders to bring back that classic look, or switching out neck ties for bow ties. Even if your groom opts to wear the classic black-and-white suit, try adding a timeless pocket watch chain or a glitzy watch to make him stand out!

Just like it’s becoming a trend for bridesmaids to wear different dresses following the same color palette, men are now having their groomsmen pick their own suits and style! Instead of insisting each groomsman wear the same suit and shoes, allow them to express their own style and spin on their outfits!

Be my Bridesmaid? Things to Consider Before Saying "I Do"

Nothing is more honorable than standing beside the bride as she says “I do” to her beloved husband; however, there are numerous things to consider before saying “I do” to becoming a bridesmaid. Being a bridesmaid is similar to having a part time job, and it will cost you both your time and money. Even though being part of a bridal party is rewarding and fun, here are your top concerns when deciding if you can take on such responsibility.

When agreeing to be a bridesmaid, it is expected that your wallet will feel some of the pressure. Between buying a bridesmaid dress, contributing to the bridal shower and bachelorette party, and possibly paying to get pampered the day of the wedding (hair and nails), it’s not a cheap journey.

As a bridesmaid, it is expected that you attend the necessary wedding-related events, such as helping the bride pick out her dress, engagement party, the bridal shower, bachelorette party, etc. If you live far away, it is understandable to miss some events, but you should still expect to spend some time helping the bride and other bridesmaids plan.

Although you are part of the bride tribe, the big day is all about the bride, not the bridesmaids. With that being said, if you pick out a bridesmaid dress you absolutely love but the bride doesn’t agree with the style or color, or you pick a venue and the bride disagrees, be prepared to hear her say “no.” Although (hopefully) not every bride is a bridezilla, it is important to remember to listen to the bride, as it is her special day and wants everything to be a certain way.

Pastel Wedding Color Palette

Spring is here! What better way to brighten your wedding day than focusing on a pastel color palette?! From pale pinks and purple to soft greens and blues, the ideas and color coordinations are endless! Think fresh cut flowers, warm spring air, and a romantic, whimsical atmosphere!

Try one of our favorite go-to date night recipes below!

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 ounces angel hair pasta, cooked according to package directions (half of a 1-pound box)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled, de-veined, and cleaned with tails off (I prefer 12-15 count shrimp)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest, optional

DIRECTIONS

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions, drain, and set aside.
  2. To a large skillet, add the butter and heat over medium-high heat to melt.
  3. Stir in the garlic powder.
  4. Add the shrimp, season with salt and pepper, and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes total, or until just pink and cooked through. Flip shrimp halfway through cooking. Cooking time will vary based on size of shrimp and pan used; don't overcook or shrimp will become rubbery and tough.
  5. Add the lemon juice, optional lemon zest, and stir briefly to combine.
  6. Turn the heat to low, add the pasta to skillet with the shrimp, and toss to combine and coat. Taste, check for seasoning balance, and make any desired tweaks (add more salt, pepper, garlic powder, lemon juice, etc.). Serve immediately. Dish is best warm and fresh, but will keep airtight in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently prior to serving.

Save the Date Mistakes

The main purpose for distributing save-the-dates is to give your wedding guests an advanced notice of when your big day is. By sending them, your guests are able to take off work or arrange travel plans far in advance in order to celebrate your wedding day. Although save-the-dates are simple and easy to send out, there are some common mistakes that people tend to make:

Save-the-dates should be sent 4-6 months prior to your wedding date. A couple should only send them once their venue is also booked, in case your dream venue is booked the day you already printed on the save-the-date.

Be sure to add your location to the save-the-date for guests who are located far away. By doing so, guests are able to secure travel accommodations!

The worst is customizing your save-the-dates and receiving them in the mail only to notice spelling or grammar mistakes. Be sure to proof read everything before ordering them!

Save-the-dates should only include the couple's names, the wedding date, location, and wedding website (if applicable). The actual wedding invite will contain more details for guests. Keep the save-the-dates short and simple!

Watercolor Inspiration

Want to add some artistic elements and pops of color to your wedding day? If so, focusing on a watercolor theme is the way to go! Think of soft brush strokes and fresh, bright colors to inspire you to transform your big day into an artistic dream! A watercolor theme offers endless possibilities for decorations as well. More importantly, you can save money on creating your own DIY stationary, backdrops, and more all while having fun experimenting with different watercolor shades!

Pros and Cons for Each Season

One of the most important parts of planning your wedding is of course setting a date! Do you want to get married surrounded by a soft sheet of snow, or maybe sinking your toes in the sand on the beach? Whichever season you’re leaning towards to celebrate your big day, be sure to know some pros and cons of each.

Pros

  • Romantic

There’s nothing more romantic than a cozy atmosphere surrounded by a fresh sheet of snow, a fireplace, and your loved ones in the winter months!

  • Discounts

Since winter is considered the slow season for weddings, you have a better chance of finding discounts on venues!

  • Comfort foods

You get to have all the fun in creating your menu filled with comfort foods to keep your guests toasty warm!

Cons

  • Weather

With winter comes snow, and unpredictable snow storms could prevent guests from being able to attend.

  •  Holidays

People are saving money for the countless winter holidays, such as Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years, and Valentine’s Day.

Pros

  • Natural Beauty

Flowers are blooming, trees are slowing getting back their greenery. Have fun matching your wedding colors with the natural colors of spring surrounding you!

  • Weather warming up

Everyone loves when the weather starts to warm up, especially after a chilly winter season! It’s a great time to have an outdoor ceremony where guests won’t be too hot or too cold!

Cons

  • Peak Wedding Season

Spring time is a very popular season to get married. Venues may be booked, and it is hard to compete with others for that prime wedding date!

  • Allergies

Spring is the peak season for allergies, which means itchy eyes and runny noses!

  • Rainy Season

If you decided upon an outdoor wedding, keep in mind that April showers bring May flowers… and could potentially wash out your venue.

Pros

  • Option of an outdoor wedding

Long days, longer sunlight, and warm nights call for great outdoor weddings for you and your guests to enjoy!

  •  Themes are endless

Garden theme, rustic theme, beach theme, you name it, you got it! Aside from a wintery wedding, the themes that you can pull off are endless!

Cons

  • Heat

Although we can’t wait for the warm weather to arrive, there’s always the risk of getting married on the same day the weather is in the 90s. Be prepared to offer some shade for your guests!

  • Vacation Season

Another risk is having your wedding weekend land right in the middle of someone else’s vacation week. Summer is a very popular time for families to take vacations!

Pros

  • Reliable weather

Just like spring, the weather is not too hot and not too cold!

  • Foliage

Use nature to your advantage with decorations! Fall is the perfect season to save money in the decoration department since the foliage is as beautiful as it comes!

Cons

  • Tight finances

People are starting to save money for the upcoming holidays in the winter season, which means they are more likely to have a tight budget (and you also might be tight on your budget for the same reason)!

Spring Inspiration Board

Spring is in the air and we couldn’t be more excited to put those cold winter days behind us! We’re celebrating with fun, pastel colors and florals galore. This spring, the natural makeup look is back with subtle shadows and no more overdrawn lips or brows. For everyday fashion, everything is flirty and off-the-shoulder. Florals are being incorporated everywhere, between hairstyles, patterns on skirts, and even signage and favors for your big day!We are seriously loving these style trends heading into warmer weather!
