How to Rock the Fashion Game This Thanksgiving

How is it possible that next week is already Thanksgiving?! 2018 has completely flown by in a total whirlwind. With that being said, we’re finding ourselves completely unprepared in the fashion department for the big family dinner next week. Thanksgiving is definitely one of those holidays where you have to balance the comfortable with the fashion… how else would you be able to eat all that turkey and take a nap immediately after? This year, we’re all about the big, chunky knit sweaters. These babies are super comfortable and totally in season but look beautiful too! You have such a range of colors to choose from and can pair them with anything from ripped jeans to leggings. It all depends on your personal style and how casual you’re looking to be.

Our Favorite Fall Fashion Statement: The Caped Coat

The cooler weather is here and with it comes coat season! We love how you can express your style so easily through one simple article of clothing. Just because a coat needs to be practical and effective, doesn’t mean it can’t also be super stylish! For that reason, we’re head over heels for caped coats. We’ve been on this trend train for quite a bit of time and it doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. You’ll be looking upscale and totally chic in one of these beauties!

How to Style: White Jeans

White jean season is here! We absolutely love a good white jean. There are so many ways you can style your favorite pair for any occasion. We love how flexible a nice pair of white jeans can be and budget-friendly, too. One of our favorite pairs is on sale at Old Navy for $29! Once you have your jeans, how do you style them? No worries, we have you covered.

Wear to Work

White jeans can be dressed up for a nice crisp, clean look that’s perfect for the workplace. We love pairing them with a solid button-down or fun blouse. Complete the look with nude accessories -- your belt, shoes, and purse. This is great for summer and will transition nicely into any after-work activities you may have while still looking professional for the daytime. After all, who doesn’t love a look that can easily transition from day to night?

A Night Out

Girls night! What are you wearing? Grab those lovely white jeans and pair them with a nice light off the shoulder top. We love the femininity of a flowy off the shoulder top, and picking a nice light blush color really furthers that style. Grab a pair of nude pumps for a simple and elegant look that really achieves that “effortlessly stunning” feel!

Weekend Fun

It’s finally the weekend and you’re headed out for a day of fun! But what do you wear for all your adventures? You need something relaxed, comfortable, and versatile for some shopping or maybe even your flea market hunting, lunch with the girls… who knows! Obviously we’re rocking those jeans again. Pair with a chambray shirt for a more laid-back look while still looking effortlessly chic. Swap out the pumps for some cute nude sandals to show off your pedi and grab a hat to hide from the sun!

The All White Trend

We’re loving this newest trend, but we’re also super intimidated by it! Not only do you have to make sure you can keep everything clean, but it just takes a certain person to really rock this look. The key is LAYERS! If you’re still intimidated, work your way slowly there by throwing a nude blazer on over your ensamble to add just a subtle bit of color. Can you tell we love the nude and white combo yet? Nude accessories are the best because they literally go with any outfit!

These are The Hottest Summer Looks This Year

Did you know that we’re just days away from it officially being summer?! So exciting! The weather is heating up and the wardrobes are starting to change. But what’s in style this season? Whether you’re headed out for a night on the town with the girls, an afternoon shopping spree, or just hanging out, there’s a look for you. We’re sharing some of our absolute favorite looks for this summer.

How to Style Your New Off the Shoulder Top

Off the shoulder tops have been all the rage season after season lately, and they aren’t going anywhere soon. Tons of new trends are springing up to couple with the adorable off the shoulder trend, too, with everything from smocked tops to embroidered sleeves. The look is super easy to pull off; just tossing on an off the shoulder top immediately glams up your outfit - it’s effortless! This option from Lulu’s is the perfect springtime staple, and we’re here to help you nail the off the shoulder trend.

KEEP IT CASUAL

The blouse we’re working with from Lulu’s is super flirty, and although the details are subtle, it’s best to let them speak for themselves. Pair it with some dark, regular denim - something overly distressed might take away from the boho vibe! The sheer fabric of the top paired with the long sleeves and exposed shoulders makes it the perfect springtime transition piece. The polka dots are fun and playful, and the volume of the sleeves balances out the cinched top, making it a flattering option for any figure.

With an off the shoulder top, it might be tempting to over-accessorize, so be careful. You don’t want a ton of clunky necklaces taking away from the exposed shoulder look, so opt for layering some dainty pieces instead. Another great option is to toss your hair up in a loose, textured pony to play up the boho vibes and accessorize with some gold hoops! Grab a neutral pair of wedges like these Marc Fisher ones, throw on a pink matte lip for a pop of color, and your look’s complete!

BE BOLD

If you want to try out something a little more extravagant than your typical blouse and jeans combo, this top would pair perfectly with a thrifted pair of overalls. The cinched waist of this top makes it a great option to layer under some overalls, since it won’t come off as boxy or ill-fitting. It’s definitely a statement, but it’s a trend that’s taking the fashion and festival scene by storm. An adorable pair of sandals (or pumps, if you want to glam it up a bit) would pair well with the look, and a unique crossbody bag like this one would really pull it together.

A little too adventurous? Dress up your look by opting for the black version of the blouse instead. The sheer fabric is even more accentuated in the black version, so it’s ideal for a night out with the girls. Pair it with some faux leather leggings like this pair from Express and a classic pair of pumps. You’ll still be rocking that flirty vibe thanks to the off the shoulder, but your outfit will be a whole lot edgier!

How to Slay the Scarf Game

Single digit temperatures are the unfortunate reality for a lot of us right now. It’s easy to bundle up in a couple of lazy layers and sacrifice looking cute for a little bit of extra warmth, but just because you’re suffering doesn’t mean your outfit has to, too! Scarves are a timeless piece that do it all: they add a bold pop of color, turn any casual look into something much more stylish, and some are practically wearable blankets. There’s so many options out there, so we rounded up some of our favorite ways to style these cozy winter pieces!

TRADITIONAL RECTANGLE SCARVES

Classic Loop

Looping a rectangle scarf around your neck two or three times is as effortless as it is chic. It’s timeless, and the best way to wrap a scarf that you want to make a statement. Let the bright and bold pattern speak for itself against some comfy leggings and a neutral colored sweater, and toss on some booties to complete the look.

Half Bow

If patterns aren’t for you, there’s dozens of intricate ways to tie your solid colored scarf into something that looks more like art than an accessory. Our favorite (as well as Adele’s!) is the half bow knot. Just drape the scarf around your neck, make a loose knot on one side about halfway down, and fold the opposite side in at the middle. Pull the pinched portion of that side through the knot, tighten, and fluff your bow!

BLANKET SCARVES

Triangle Fold

The blanket scarf is, of course, the coziest of all. There’s really no right way to wear one and since they’re so oversized, they basically become your outfit. For cold winter mornings when you could really use the extra ten minutes in bed, you can practically take your blanket with you and look gorgeous doing it! For this fold, you want to start by making the scarf into a triangle to limit its size. After that, cross the two corners of the folded side behind your neck and pull forward - that’s it!

Around the Shoulders

We promise, you can actually wear a blanket scarf wrapped around you and look cute and put together while you do! Our favorite way to work these into our winter wardrobe is easy: just fold the scarf to the desired size, and wrap it around and over your shoulders like a shawl. If you’re not completely sold on the whole actually wearing a blanket out thing, try incorporating a thin belt on the waist for a little more structure!

INFINITY SCARVES

Effortless Loop

Infinity scarves are usually one of the warmest picks if you’re really trying to layer up, and they’re super easy to wear. Because of their circular shape, you can just loop the accessory around your neck once or twice and be on your way out the door! Because they’re often made with a loose, chunky knit, they’re extra comfortable, and the oversized piece looks and feels great in the cold.

Loose Knot

Most people shy away from infinity scarves because they think the shape is limiting, and while they’re definitely not as versatile as the other kinds we’ve listed, you still have some options! If you love a cozier, thicker scarf, opt for a knit infinity scarf and loop it just like you would with a traditional scarf. Keep extra warm by wrapping the scarf around your neck the long way and looping it through to make an oversized knot!

SATIN SCARVES

Side Knot

If it’s a little warmer where you live but you still love the look of scarves, there’s tons of ways to incorporate them into your look without looking like you’re dressed for the wrong coast. Satin neck scarves are seriously making a comeback right now, and we’re living for the retro look. Tie a small, dainty bow on the side of your neck, and let your scarf be the unexpected focal piece of your winter look.

Headband

We especially love how adorable silky scarves look tied in an off-center knot around a messy bun! You can also tie your scarf as a headband and wear it with a cute, messy knot on the front or hide it underneath your hair to tame the frizz and turn a bad hair day into something a little more glam.

BONUS TIP

Get in on a classy new trend by checking out pins to combine with your scarves! You can place one on the side of the half-bow for an elegant detail or use one to hold a side knot together with a cute touch. Some of the biggest trendsetters are especially loving designer brooches to pin on their scarves, which you can buy pre-loved for cheap and pin on every accessory, every season!

5 Winter Jackets You Need This Season

Every girl knows that one winter jacket is not enough. We want our jackets to match our outfits or be appropriate for every event we attend. Unfortunately, jackets can be expensive, and we can’t all afford to have thirty jackets in our closet. So, to save your closet space and wallet, we at Parsimony Inspired created a list of the five jackets you need to keep your winter wardrobe stylish and well rounded!

PEA COAT

Pea coats were originally worn by European sailors and American Navy Men. They are typically made of wool, short in length (above the knee), have broad lapels, and a double breasted front with large buttons. Pea coats can be worn as an everyday coat when the weather is not below freezing, and it is also acceptable to wear for more business-like occasions such as work, an interview, or dinner. Normally fashioned in neutral colors, pea coats do come in a variety of bright colors and patterns to satisfy every woman’s preference.

SKI JACKET

Ski Jackets are designed to keep the active woman warm. Typically used for winter outdoor activities such as skiing and snowboarding, they can also be used as the outermost layer when the temperature drops and the wind picks up (they are usually wind resistant). Ski jackets come in a variety of length, colors, and layers. When deciding on a jacket, first consider the insulating materials. Do you need one that protects you at -30°F or one that protects you at just 20°F? These coats are definitely casual in nature, so pick one with fun colors no one will miss on the slopes!

LONG WOOL TRENCH COAT

The original trench coat is a long waterproof coat that is double breasted with 10 buttons, has wide lapels, and a tie or belt at the waist. This twist on the original trench coat still boasts the flashy lapels and belt, but is made of wool instead. A long wool trench coat is warm, cozy, and fancy. Like a pea coat it typically is made in neutral colors, but can be found in many other colors and patterns. It is more business than casual, and is appropriate for any work or important meeting you have planned. It also plays up casual wear and looks great with jeans, heels, and a colorful scarf!

COCOON COAT

Cocoon coats are unstructured and loose fitting-think a mix between a coat, cape, and cloak. They tend to have voluminous sleeves, and are a perfect outer layer when wearing a chunky sweater. They come in a variety of colors, patterns, and materials, and can either be casual or dressy. When dressing up the cocoon coat, make sure the outfit underneath is sleek and well fitted. Not all of these coats have closures, so wear them on warmer days or indoors as a fashion statement!

PARKA

The parka was created by the Caribou Inuit to keep warm while hunting in the frigid Arctic. It is hip length, with a (faux) fur-lined hood, and typically stuffed with down warm synthetic fiber. This is your go to frigid weather coat. The down lining will keep you warm without having to layer 2 sweaters underneath. Parkas are acceptable as both business and casual wear. They are usually neutral in color and simply embellished with the fur-lined hood and sometimes toggle buttons. Parkas are a must-have for those living in cold climates, but can be passed on by those lucky enough to enjoy warm weather all year long!

How to Crush the Winter Fashion Game

IMAGE SOURCE: YOUR YARN UA (ETSY)

Winter fashion lends itself to the comfiest clothes of the year, but if you’re not careful your outfit can come across as lazy. We want you looking your best this winter, so we’ve picked our top five must-have pieces for your wardrobe to crush the fashion game!

SILK HAIR RIBBONS

Fashionable hair ribbons are a great way to play up your simple ponytail or braid. Silk is great for the winter because it decreases static and reduces split ends and dried out hair.

TURTLENECKS

Don’t be afraid of this 90’s comeback! Turtlenecks are super comfy, protect your neck from the cold, and elongate your neck (now you can rock those super long tassel earrings!) Wear an oversized turtleneck sweater or layer a tight fitting turtleneck under a leather jacket or wool coat!

OVERSIZED CARDIGANS

If worn correctly, an oversized cardigan is a great accent piece! Find one with a bold pattern or color to spice up simple layers underneath, or tone down a colorful outfit with a neutral toned cardigan! Make sure the cardigan doesn’t overwhelm your size- think top layer not poncho.

FLEECE-LINED LEGGINGS & TIGHTS

If you don’t have these in your closet, you need to go buy some immediately! Now you can wear that skirt or dress all winter long without turning your legs into icicles!

FASHIONABLE, YET PRACTICAL, MITTENS

If you lean towards gloves for hand warmth, try picking up a pair of mittens instead! Mittens keep your hands warmer than gloves, so wear them when walking about the city or standing in the dog park! Seek out fleece or sherpa lined mittens, and of course mittens with pretty and sophisticated patterns and colors.

Office Holiday Party Outfit Guide & Inspiration

FontCandy (5).png

Every year we are obligated to go to an office holiday party, and every year we have difficulty deciding what to wear. This season, we’ve created a guide with inspiration to help you choose an appropriate and stylish outfit!

casual dress code

If your daily work attire is casual, you can expect a casual dress code for your office party! Pair jeans with a cute sweater or flannel shirt. Tuck a simple shirt into a fun colored or patterned skirt, or wear a stylish wool coat! Use bright colors and jewel tones to your advantage to make your casual clothes fashionable!

business casual & semi formal dress code

Business casual & semi formal attire ranges from pants to dresses. Pair cropped pants or formal joggers with a bright heel. Wear a flirty dress or skirt, or be bold and try out a jumpsuit! Add a little sparkle to a structured outfit for some holiday spirit!

formal dress code

A formal dress code is the green light to be as fancy as you desire! Where pants are not quite acceptable at a formal party, you can wear a fashionable jumpsuit! Find one that is tailored and monochrome. Skirts should be full, textured, or colorful, and dresses should be knee-length or longer. Since it is a holiday party, your dress should stand out, whether with appliques, color, or silhouette!

You will definitely be excited to show off your OOTD to your family and friends.

Summer Wedding Footwear & Advice on Summer Surfaces

You’ve decided on your wedding venue, picked out your dress, and now it’s time for shoes! Having a summer wedding means your free to have all the open-toe options and you also have the option to even go barefoot!

Before picking shoes, it’s important to know your venue and the surfaces you’ll be walking on. As we all know, heels and grass do not mix well. That also applies with heels in sand. Don’t fret – this does not mean you can’t wear those heels you’ve been eyeing! If you’re getting married on the beach and want to wear heels, opt for a boardwalk aisle so you won’t be sinking in the sand. If you’re getting married in a backyard or on a lawn, you can also make an aisle runner on which you won’t sink in the ground; however, if you want the natural look, ditch the heels and wear chunky wedges, beautiful flats, sandals, or even the new trending barefoot sandals!

Summer Wedding Guest Fashion

Untitled-1.png

Now that you’ve been invited to a wedding, it’s time to decide what to wear! Attending a wedding in the summer means you have a wide range of outfit options! From summery florals to bright pops of color, you’ll be the next best looking person in the room (next to the bride, of course)!

Have some fun with your dress and go for floral patterns! With a patterned dress like florals, you don’t need to have statement jewelry, for your dress is a statement itself! Chances are, you can also re-wear this dress as a sundress throughout the summer!

The bride’s not the only one who gets to rock lace on her big day! There are so many cute summer dresses with lace textures, you’ll have a hard time choosing which one to wear! Pair with some cute earrings and a clutch!

Brighten up this summer day even more with some bold pops of color! With colors such as hot pink and vibrant orange, it’s going to be hard not to take the attention off of the bride!

Finally, our favorite season is upon us! It’s time to throw on some flip flops and head to the beach! Since going to the beach is an all-day event, it’s important to know exactly what to pack in that cute beach bag of yours. Aside from the obvious, such as beach towels and sunglasses, we put together a list of our top beach bag essentials for summer 2017.

Even though we all want that sun kissed tan, it’s SO important to wear sunscreen! Don’t forget to reapply throughout the day, and it doesn’t hurt to pack a little SPF lip balm to avoid burnt lips! In addition, grab some protection for your hair. With products such as Sun Bum leave in conditioner, you’ll leave the beach with soft and hydrated hair.

Nothing is more relaxing than catching up on some reading with the ocean waves in the background. Whether on your kindle or a classic hard cover, be sure to buy some reading material to enjoy on your beach day!

Whether you bring headphones, speakers, or even your own guitar, having music at the beach surrounded by your friends is a great way to spend your beach day! Go the extra mile and get a waterproof speaker (and of course, be sure to be mindful of your beach neighbors with your music).

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Be sure to drink enough water throughout the day, as the sun dehydrates you! In addition to bringing water, it’s also smart to carry along a cooler to keep your drinks nice and cool (and to store some beach snacks, too). Get one of our favorite S’well water bottles here!

The Jewel Tone Story

When thinking about this concept, we were inspired to mix the old with the new. The gardens and architecture of this late 1800s historical home nestled in the heart of Amherst, Massachusetts, created a simple but elegant backdrop to allow our deep beautiful jewel tones to take center stage.

Our vision for this beautiful shoot was to showcase a deep modern jewel tone palette and embrace a balance of the classic surroundings and the rich modern romance. We created a bold design with hues of pinks, purples, greens and blues, a palette that we accented with the mixture of vintage details and modern touches.

From the modern invitation suite with its geometric shapes and bold colors to the ombre guest seating we were inspired by this beautiful balance of classic and modern.
