Keep Your Home Decor Aesthetic While Still Incorporating Those Seasonal Feels!

It’s that time of year where everyone is decorating for fall, and soon enough, winter and Christmas too! It can be such a heavy lift to completely swap out all your decor for each seasonal change. Not to mention, the feel of your house totally changes too! That’s why we’re huge fans of incorporating seasonal decor that already matches your home aesthetic and design. What’s that entail? Glad you asked! Today we’re going to look at a few different factors: color palette, accessories, and scent.

Color Palette

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to completely change your color palette for the season! Not everyone wants bright reds, oranges, and yellows in their home for the fall season. We can totally relate. That’s why we’re all about finding pieces and subtle changes that bring the spirit of the season into the space without compromising your personal style.

Accessories

Accessories are the best way to accomplish your subtle changes for the season. Try swapping out your usual throw pillows for something more seasonal. This doesn’t have to be something big and bold like a throw pillow with a huge pumpkin on it. We love plaid and cable knit pillows for someone looking for a cozy fall feel. Cable knit pillows are especially great as they can easily transition into winter too! Adding a couple of extra beautiful throw blankets is also a great option to cozy up your home for the cooler seasons. They add texture, color, and snuggly warm when needed. Dried hydrangeas and white pumpkins are some of our other favorite accessories to add a nice subtle pop of fall. They can go with almost any decor color palette and are quick and easy changes to make!

Scent

Scent is one of the easiest ways to change the feel of a room without even changing anything! Fall scented candles and wax melts instantly give you that warm, cozy fall feeling without even lifting a finger on your decor. Same with balsam and the like for the winter season. If you do choose to change up your decor, changing up your scent really adds that extra touch to finish off your seasonal wonderland!

Lake and DIY 035.JPG

It’s hard to believe that spring has sprung and tomorrow is May… but we’re not complaining! April showers bring May flowers, so today we’re sharing a super easy DIY to start to bring those flowers into your home. Bright, fun wreaths are a simple way to incorporate that color and give your home an extra, welcoming pop of color. Part of why we love this wreath is that you can leave it up throughout the spring and summer months, and we love a versatile piece of decor made on a budget! This whole project cost a grand total of $13, how can you say no to that? Make sure you check for coupons before you head to your craft store, they always have sales going on!

What You’ll Need:

Lake and DIY 030.JPG
  • 2 tulip bunches in your desired color(s)
  • 18 inch grapevine wreath
  • Garden scissors or wire cutters
  • Hot glue gun
  • Garden wire (optional)

How to Assemble:

  1. Deconstruct your tulip bunches so you have a bunch of individual stems. Make sure to cut decent length stems as we’ll be tucking them into the wreath.
  2. While your hot glue gun warms up, start placing your tulip stems around the outer half of your wreath to test out spacing and placement.
  3. Once you have decided where you want your stems to be, start securing them in place with hot glue. If you’re worried you’re going to change your mind on placement, instead wrap each stem with garden wire to secure. Or, use a combination for extra tight security.
  4. Once your stems are all secured and in place, hang your wreath and enjoy! How simple was that?!

Candles

There’s just something about burning candles that makes a room feel extra cozy. Whether it be the warm, flickering flame or the yummy scent, there is an undeniable ambiance in candles! If you are unable or prefer not to actually burn candles, there are some beautiful and convincing LED candles available for purchase at home and craft stores.

Warm Lighting

Warm lighting is just that -- warm! Opt for warm white bulbs versus cool white. Depending on the room and your style, add some fairy or icicle lights and omit traditional lighting all together. This will really make a space feel more cozy and intimate.

Textured Blankets

We love blankets, and the cold winter is the perfect time to showcase them! Choose a mixture of textures and neutral colors to add more depth to the space. Add in some decorative throw pillows and you have an irresistible place to snuggle up for an afternoon nap.

Fuzzy Rug

Give your toes something cozy too! A nice, thick, fuzzy rug creates an inviting space and screams cozy. Pick a nice neutral that will match the rest of your room and easily transition between any style or design changes you make.

Roaring Fire

There’s nothing quite like snuggling up next to a warm fire. The crackling heat is the best. Snuggled up on the couch under your blanket and watching a movie by the light of the fire? Yes please! No fireplace? Throw on a virtual fire with the Netflix stream! Still get the look and the sound, just no heat.

Hot Cocoa

Hot cocoa is the perfect beverage for a cold winter night. Have you tried the Chai Hot Chocolate recipe we shared last month? It’s to die for! Make up a batch to please the whole crowd. Don’t forget the marshmallows!

Book Nook

Snuggle up in your designated reading corner. We love the idea of having a quaint book nook in our home. Filled with pillows and textured blankets, you may end up falling asleep instead of reading, but it will certainly be cozy!

Who doesn’t love a batch of freshly baked cookies?! Or, step up your game and make a skillet cookie to share with the group. Either way, the warm gooey cookies combined with their heavenly aroma adds another level of coziness and hominess to your place.

Himalayan Salt Lamp

Have you heard of all the health benefits provided by a Himalayan salt lamp? They work to add negative ions into the air, purifying it and removing toxins. This calms asthma and allergy symptoms, increase levels of serotonin in the brain, boost blood flow and improve sleep. Bonus: it gives off a beautiful warm light!

Classical or Jazz Music

Set the mood with some smooth jazz or soft classical music. There’s something soothing about these two styles of music that just increasing our relaxation and makes us feel warm inside. Use that to your advantage to add the final touch onto your cozy oasis!
