Your Base Wardrobe Isn't Complete without These Essential Jewelry Pieces

There are classic pieces to everything in life, your wardrobe and jewelry collection are no different. There are certain items that really hold down a solid base for your jewelry -- they are versatile, beautiful, and classic. The best part? If you can grab this handful of budget-friendly items, you’re ready to rock any occasion in your future! Today, we’re sharing the essential jewelry pieces we think every girl should have ready to go. If you’re looking to expand off of this, make sure you check out what’s in style this season!

Stud Earrings

If your ears are pierced, it’s a necessity to have a few nice pairs of stud earrings. Whether they’re just some simple solid metal balls or small cute shapes, or something more blingy like diamond (or faux!) or pearl, we love a good stud. They’re easy to throw in and not have to worry about and just have a nice polished, classic look.

Pendant Necklace

For everyday wear, we love a good pendant necklace. There are so many cute ones out there! Many people layer different length chains for a different look, too. Some of our favorites are just small pendant, like initial charms or different symbols, like a heart or paw print.

Statement Necklace

For bigger occasions, you have to have a fun statement necklace! This is a piece that you can definitely be more wild with. Really pick something that makes you say “wow, that sparkles!” Some people think that the bling may cost a lot extra, but it doesn’t have to. Check out places like Charming Charlie’s or even Target to see what options they have. (Warning: You may get lost in the magic that is Charming Charlie’s!)

Simple Rings

We really like having a nice variety of some simple rings. Just plain bands will do. It’s fun to mix things up and throw some on different fingers. We really like the midi-ring look. Pinky rings too! Maybe mix in one or two more complex or blingy rings for some added pop.

Bangles

Have you picked up on the trend of simple yet elegant yet? Bangles fit right in there, too. Most of the time, you can buy some really cute sets of bangles. These can be worn everyday for more casual occasions and also dressed up for bigger events. They’re super versatile and just add a little extra something to your look.

Be on Top of the Hottest Jewelry Trends of 2018

Weather’s warming up and jewelry is starting to really shine. As we’re pulling out all our sparkly goodies, we’re looking to see what trends are hot this year. We’re seeing a lot of new trends that we weren’t totally expecting. Check out the 2018 jewelry trends that are really taking off this season and some of our favorite picks for each!

Statement Hoops

There are a whole bunch of trends in the earring department this season, but we’re loving the statement hoop look! This really gives you an opportunity to show your style with some color and funk.

Translucent Jewelry

A more interesting look, translucent jewelry is making a charge this season. This is certainly for the bold, and perfect if you’re really looking to stand out!

Super Long Earrings

We’re seeing some crazy long earrings this year! Chunky, skinny, metal, bright colors… you name it, if it’s long, rock it! While we have slight anxiety about these getting caught on things (yikes!), we really like the look, so keep that in mind when you rock these bad boys.

Pinky Rings

Give us all the rings! We’re loving pinky rings this year. You’ve already got your midi rings and now we’re adding extra bling to the pinkies. Keep it subtle or really make a statement with some serious bling. The choice is yours!

Flower Earrings

We’re all about flower power, so we’re definitely on the flower earring train! This whimsical trend really ties in with the warmer weather and has a lot of versatility and variety within it. You can go subtle with smaller flowers and muted tones, or really go bright and bold depending on your style.

Sea Jewelry

Moving into summer, this trend is perfect. Incorporate the ocean and beach into your everyday look. We love seeing shells incorporated for that nautical feel. It just has us daydreaming of beach days all week long!

Mismatched Earrings

Let’s be honest -- not 100% sure if we’re completely on board with this one, but it’s certainly making its mark. We can dig some of the more subtle mismatching, whether it be a slight variation in length or design, but wouldn’t recommend grabbing one half of two completely different pairs of earrings for this look.

Brooches

How fun! These aren’t your average brooches from Grandma’s house. The brooch trend is coming back with a vengeance and new, youthful designs are popping up all around. We love the idea of adding some bling to your clothes in addition to your jewelry!

Pendant Necklaces

Who doesn’t love a good pendant necklace? This is one of those statement pieces we think everyone should have. Definitely on the list to add to your collection this season if you don’t already have a favorite because we don’t see this one leaving anytime soon!

Deciding on how to embellish your décolletage can be the hardest decision as it will be at the forefront of your look. We advise you to look to your dress and how your neckline is designed.

If you are going strapless, you will want to height and balance by wearing a necklace that is shorter and lays just below your collarbone. In terms of style, there are so many options out there, we think the necklace is the perfect place to add a bit of your own personal style. Go bohemian with a shoulder necklace, keep it classic with a simple pendant or go bold with a statement piece.

The biggest deciding factor on choosing earrings is how you will wear your hair that day. If you are going with a swept up style, all your hair off your shoulders, you can go with a statement earrings to add to the glitz factor or you can keep it simple by wearing classic studs. A place to play up your personal style is to incorporate colored gems to add some warmth and flare.

We suggest you consider adding a bracelet after you have decided on a necklace and earrings. A bracelet is a great way to add a style pop to a simple dress and or add more bling when needed (which is pretty much always!). The one thing to really consider when choosing a bracelet is thinking about whether the bracelet will catch on the fabric of your dress, you don’t want to create snags in the fabric.

The Jewel Tone Story

When thinking about this concept, we were inspired to mix the old with the new. The gardens and architecture of this late 1800s historical home nestled in the heart of Amherst, Massachusetts, created a simple but elegant backdrop to allow our deep beautiful jewel tones to take center stage.

Our vision for this beautiful shoot was to showcase a deep modern jewel tone palette and embrace a balance of the classic surroundings and the rich modern romance. We created a bold design with hues of pinks, purples, greens and blues, a palette that we accented with the mixture of vintage details and modern touches.

From the modern invitation suite with its geometric shapes and bold colors to the ombre guest seating we were inspired by this beautiful balance of classic and modern.

Winter Gathering

When creating this Winter Gathering concept, Parsimony Inspired's vision was to embrace the color palette of winter but balance the look with soft feminine accents. We created a design with hues of creams, greys and greens, a palette that we softened with flowing fabrics, gold accents and mixed textures.

Tucked in the mountains of the Berkshires, Bloom Meadows was the perfect backdrop for this romantic winter shoot. A space with beautiful lines, natural elements and neutral colors, our designs felt rooted in the space and allowed our soft color palette to pop against the beautiful white walls. We loved the venue's design so much we had our invitation designer Kim Small of With Wild and Grace draw the venue and add it to the elegant invitation suite's design. One of our favorite ways to add a custom detail.

Our bride was styled in a stunning chiffon A-line Lilian West gown. The illusion V-neck and the detail of the lace appliqués also brought a feminine touch to the bridal look, while the long sleeves and chapel length train were the perfect look for a winter wedding. The hair style framed our bride's face with greenery touches while soft makeup with a smokey eye gave a bit of drama to the final look. To add a little sparkle to our bride's style, she wore a stunning engagement ring and wedding band set designed by Megan Thorne and stunning hand crafted moonstone earrings designed by Pamela Froman.

When it came to working with floral designer Stacey Radcliffe of The Tangled Grapevine, we knew that we wanted the flowers to be filled with different types of greenery, our favorite trend for 2017. We incorporated greenery in every aspect of the design from the aerial floral installation above our reception table to greenery in our bride's hair. Stacey created a lush presentation bouquet filled with white Anemone, silver Brunia, white Lisianthus, peach Spray Roses, white Tulips, seeded Eucalyptus, Ruscus, Asparagus Fern and Gooseneck Loosestrifes.

From the serene Berkshire winter setting, the soft and romantic invitation suite with it's perfect vellum wax seal to the amazing marbled cakedesigned by the talented Pete of Pete's Sweets, we balanced winter's neutral palette and elements of nature with soft fabrics, feminine touches and meaningful details that would make you want to spend a winter's eve snuggled up with the one you love.

The Minimalist Story

We were inspired by the gardens and architecture of this late 1800's historical home nestled next to the Emily Dickinson homestead in the heart of Amherst, Massachusetts. The house and surrounding grounds helped us create a space where we could incorporate the unique elements of softness, texture and romance.

Our vision for this seasonal shoot was to embrace a balance of nature's elegance and feminine romance. We created a soft design with hues of creams, greys and blues, a palette that softened our base of earth textures; wood, succulents and ivy.

While touring the grounds we decided to set our table beneath the canopy of a gorgeous old tree, whose low hanging branches created a stunning backdrop. Our table was a mix of wood, bark and succulents softened by accents of gold and sweeping fabric. It was the type of setting would make any guest linger in their seat to absorb the surroundings and details.

Our bride was styled in a beautiful lace BHLDN gown and elegant accessories. Her hair was simply done and her soft makeup with a hint of pink lip was all this bride needed to allow her stunning lace dress to take center stage.

The setting was dreamy, and perfect for a lush, cascading bouquet filled with Dogwood, roses, peonies, the first sight of dahlias and on-site greenery designed by Flowers by Justine.

From the elegant invitation with its perfect velvet envelope, the earth inspired cake with its handmade details of succulents and grapevine, to the beautiful balance of nature and romance, the new Minimalist Bride is defined.

Wedding Bling

The time is here; you’re about to pick out the ring for the love of your life. You want it to be perfect, but where do you start? Take a deep breath and feast your eyes. We had the pleasure of working with Maya MacLachlan at dmg (Don Muller Gallery) in Northampton, MA to help guide you while picking the perfect ring to pop the question with!

Take a look at what she’s wearing. How would you describe her style? Is she…

Use this guide to match her style with the ring that will get your soon to-be fiancée saying

To match her timeless sense of style, choose a ring with a classically clean, symmetrical and detailed cut. Shimmering silvers are sure to make her swoon!

Your glamorous gal isn’t afraid to have some fun! Play with rose golds and matte silvers – her ring will make a statement to match her style.

She’s adventurous and in-tune with the world around her. Colored gem stones are a gorgeous alternative to diamonds, and organic band designs are perfect for nature lovers.

She’s confident – unapologetically herself 24/7, and that’s what you love about her! Go for a bold ring that will set her apart from the rest.

Your lovely lady’s style is the perfect pairing of comfortable and cute. She would be happy with a ring that is beautiful in its own simplicity. She doesn’t need an intricate ring to make her happy, she has you and that’s all she needs!

Still need a little more help? We sat down with Maya MacLachlan, owner of dmg, to get you 5 tips to make the process even easier!

1.      Shop as a Team

It’s not unusual to see a couple come in together at dmg! If you’re a couple that’s open to going through the process together, stop into your jeweler as a team. This will help erase your anxiety if the bride to-be has a very specific sense of style.

2.      Consider Her Wedding Band

The style of her wedding band can dramatically change the look of her ring! You can add some serious bling to the set based on what style band you choose.  You can even mix and match metals and gem stones.

3.      Not Everyone Wants a Diamond

Natural gemstones can add color and a unique style. The center stone doesn't have to be a white diamond and you can be daring by going for a pop of color and unique style. Consider a sapphire or a colored diamond instead.

4.      Switch Your Metal

The metal you choose for the band of your engagement ring can completely change the style. At dmg they offer a variety of metals from gorgeous rose golds to matte platinum and everything in-between!

5.      Customize

At dmg you can customize every single ring in the store beyond the size of the band and carat.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions about how you can make the ring unique for your to-be fiancé!
