After a long, cold winter in New England and the weather finally starting to heat up, we’re looking to get that perfect summer glow rolling! With all the research done, we know that skin cancer is not to be taken lightly and laying out in the sun baking really isn’t a safe option. Instead, we’ve gathered some of the top sunless tanners to help you get your glow on this season, without those harmful rays and on an everyday girl budget!

Our Key Tips to the Perfect Tan:

Make sure you exfoliate beforehand! And after you get out of the shower, keep you skin clean, meaning no lotion, deodorant, or perfumes before applying your self-tanner. If you have an applicator mitt, great! Definitely use it. If not, moisturize only the palms of your hands and between your fingers right before applying your tan to avoid unwanted color from sticking! This will keep a more natural look as those parts of your body don’t usually tan, but are needed to apply your tanner without a mitt. Once you’ve reached your optimal color, use a more gradual tanner like Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer for subtle maintenance glow.

  • Exfoliate and shave/wax prior to applying any self-tanner, typically up to 24 hours prior
  • Test the shade of self-tanner on a small patch of skin before using it on larger areas
  • Invest in a tan-applicator mitt to avoid streaks by applying with your bare hand
  • Moisturize after to maintain that healthy glow!

  • Layer it on, your skin can only absorb so much product and tint at a time
  • Moisturize prior; it will affect the way your skin absorbs the tanning product
  • Moisturize with oil after; oil is more prone to fade your tan faster
