Our Favorite Trends for 2018 Spring Florals

The wedding is fast approaching and you’re making your final decision. Trying to stay up to date and on trends for the season? We’ve got your back! We’re loving the classics but also some more unique options as well. But your bouquets and arrangements are more than just the flowers themselves… it’s also how they’re arranged! We’re looking at a couple of the trends this season for how arrangements are being done.

The Flowers

The Styling

There are two new trends we’re seeing for bouquets this season. The first is a big incorporation of the Pantone Color of the Year, Ultra Violet! While it can be hard to find florals in this tone naturally, we’re giving a nod to the color by using softer shades like lavenders and lilacs. If you’re looking to incorporate some Ultra Violet into your big day, be sure to check out our inspiration board for all things violet!

The other trend we’re seeing and loving is having a monochromatic bouquet. While we love seeing pops of color, this look is a bit more refined and gives you the opening to really spice things up with different textures and varieties of florals. This is a really fun way to highlight your wedding color in a major way!

Spring Wedding Color and Decor Trends

Gone are the days of rose gold accents. This wedding season, it’s all about mixing up the metals, incorporating jewel tones, and really ramping up the greenery. Copper is really having a moment this spring, despite it usually making an appearance in autumn weddings, and we’re loving it! One of our favorite decor trends is utilizing copper in your place settings and silverware, especially against an off-white or cream table cloth - the end result is gorgeous and timeless. Go to our Rustic Copper Story for more inspiration!

Brides that aren’t into metals or the rustic charm trend have been opting for a more modern take on their decor, and it’s something we’re seeing pop up time and time again this season. Acrylic pieces are taking over the wedding scene! Make a bold statement by ditching the traditional ceremony seating and go with acrylic chairs instead. The see-through effect will leave the entire ceremony space open and minimalist, and the clean backdrop will really let your decor and florals shine.

In terms of florals this season, they’re bigger than ever - it’s spring, after all! Brides are going with a more innovative approach to how they style their florals by choosing to use more vertical space. Think flower walls for the ceremony space and hanging arrangements in place of an over-the-top centerpiece. This allows for more space on the table to really play with your place settings, and it fills the room with springtime glam!

Another trend we’re obsessing over is the huge amount of greenery brides are incorporating in their big day. Instead of going with a condensed, colorful bouquet, get on trend with a cascading bouquet that incorporates tons of different greenery and pops of vibrant colors. Carry this same feel throughout your ceremony space and reception area for a chic and unique look! Greenery was Pantone's 2017 color of the year and it's impact is not slowing down yet!

Ditch the single-color focus for your wedding decor and go with a more unexpected (but still cohesive!) palette instead. Rich colors and hues against a lot of greenery may seem a little dark for spring, but keep the space open and airy with light, white elements and those acrylic pieces for a glamorous and elegant springtime look. Violets, maroons, and blues against creams, blush pinks, and dark greenery have created some beautiful venue spaces so far this spring!

Texture is also one of the biggest trends in 2018. Instead of going with the classic satin accents, bring in textures as rich as the colors that you’re using. Macarame is really popular in the wedding scene right now, be it for statement backdrops, table runners, or hanging decor. Add in some more unexpected textures like velvet for an expensive and sophisticated feel, but keep the heavier ones in lighter colors to keep that springtime feel!

How To Style Your New Ankle Boots

Transitioning from winter fashion to springtime looks can be tricky, especially if there’s still a little snow on the ground. It’s still a bit cold and it’s definitely too early for sandals, but it’s beyond time to retire the boots - what’s even left to pair with that adorable pair of ripped jeans you just picked up? We love an adorable pair of suede ankle booties, especially paired with some distressed denim! Today's pick are these cuties from ALDO.

The best part about ankle booties is how versatile they are. Whether you’re looking to pair a comfy pair of shoes with something a bit fancier or you’re trying to amp up a more casual outfit, they make a great addition to any look! They aren’t big and bulky like a pair of riding boots, so they can look cute and dainty while still keeping you warm.

KEEP IT CASUAL

For a little touch of spring, grab some cropped jeans to pair with your new ankle booties, like this pair from Express. The dark wash denim is the perfect compliment to these suede booties, and the trendy distressing on the bottom is sure to draw more attention down to your new shoes! If you don’t want to buy a new pair of jeans, just remember the number one rule when it comes to rocking ankle booties: make sure your ankles are at least a little bit exposed, so be sure to cuff your jeans!

Pair the look with a more casual, understated top since the jeans and shoes do most of the talking with this look. A simple white v-neck would look great for a casual lunch day out with the girls, but you can add a little more texture with a top paired with a colorful cardigan for a flirty springtime look!

DRESS IT UP

Heels can be a girl’s worst nightmare, so if you’re dressing up for a March wedding, opt for booties instead! A heeled bootie still gives you height and makes your legs look longer and slimmer, but they’re much more comfortable than any stiletto heel out there, so you can dance the night away without ditching your shoes! These ankle booties would pair really well with a floral print dress, romper, or jumpsuit. We love the idea of going with a romper like this one from Lulu's for a spring wedding. That way, you’ll be comfortable all around, and you’ll still look fantastic!

The floral pattern in this romper works really well with the tan shade of these booties, but if you’re feeling extra adventurous, grab a colorful blush pink pair for a bigger statement. Gold accessories would really complete the look, too. Throw on some gold hoops and rock a textured up do to really show off the open back of the romper, and you’re ready!

With the change from winter to spring, our pantries change too! Say goodbye to hearty soups and hello to fresh spring veggies and light sauces. To start your spring off right, we wanted to share a light, but filling, dinner recipe you and your family will love. It's time to make Lemon Ricotta Asparagus Ravioli with a white wine sauce your go-to spring dinner!

(recipe and images courtesy of Half Baked Harvest)

Total Time: 1 hour; Servings: 6

INGREDIENTS

For the White Wine Butter Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chives
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 1/2 cup white wine or chicken broth
  • 1 cup low sodium chicken broth
  • pinch of crushed red pepper

For the Pasta:

  • 1 bunch asparagus, ends trimmed
  • 1 cup fresh basil
  • 1 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup roasted pistachios, shelled
  • juice + zest of 2 lemons
  • kosher salt + pepper
  • 40-50 circle or square wonton wrappers

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the asparagus and blanch until just tender, about 1-2 minutes. Drain and rinse under cold water.

2. In a food processor, combine 3/4 of the asparagus (reserve the remaining for serving), the basil, ricotta, parmesan, pistachios, lemon zest and juice, and a pinch each of salt and pepper. Pulse until combined and smooth.

3. Lay out about 6 wrappers. Spoon 1 tablespoon of filling into the center of each wrapper. Brush the edges with water. Lay a second wrapper on top of each ravioli. Press down the edges to seal, pressing out all the air. Crimp the edges with a fork. Alternately you can create triangles with the square wrappers if desired. Be sure to keep the ravioli's covered as you work to prevent them from drying out.

3.jpg

4. To make the butter sauce. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chives and thyme and cook 30 seconds to a minute or until fragrant. Pour in the wine and chicken broth and bring to a boil. Season with salt and pepper and a pinch of crushed red pepper. Cook 5 minutes or until the sauce has reduced slightly.

4.jpg

5. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Boil the ravioli in batches for 1-2 minutes or until they float. Drain.

6. Divide the ravioli among bowls and ladle the sauce over the ravioli. Top with the remaining asparagus!

THE BLUE AND CREAM COLOR STORY

Where Sweet Meets Elegant

There is something so elegant about a soft color palette of blues and creams. Is there anything more romantic than this? Our inspiration was to create a day of romance filled with pretty details, florals and lace. The colors were mixed with pops of peach to create a delicate and heavenly scene.

Our flowers and details were inspired by the beautiful venue's gardens and landscaping. With the every spring flower in bloom it was hard not to be inspired! The mix of the light blue tweeida and delphinium paired beautifully with the sweeping beauty bush and extra large blooms of roses, peonies, and even an early bloomed dahlias filled the arrangements and bouquets . The abundance of greens, the tones and textures are a true sign of the season. Italian ruscus, dogwood, variegated pitt, cut ivy and olive branch helped give this the perfect airy and romantic feel.

Springtime Mantel fix

Spruce up your mantel place to welcome fresh Spring vibes!

Winter blues are getting old – it’s time to bring some life back into your home! A mantel can turn into a great space to create a seasonal display. Think of this area as your own little springtime exhibition!

The key is to incorporate the freshness of spring into the display – crisp flowers, bright woods, and cheerful colors. Add a few faux critters to make it even more fun and play-up the awakening of the season!

A fool-proof way to create a beautiful themed display is to give the space a focal point – a spring wreath, a chalk board, even an old glass window or shutter! Add in other elements that fall under the same color palate. Try throwing in a couple of accent pieces to add a bright pop of color! Keep the display clean, cohesive and de-cluttered.
