Sick of the same old, same old date nights? Us too! With the beautiful summer weather getting ready to start turning into that crisp fall weather, we want to take advantage of soaking up that warmth before it’s all gone. With that in mind, our late summer date ideas all revolve around the same theme: being outside! Whether it’s a Friday night or Saturday afternoon, we have you covered with a range of fun options to do something new with your beau.

Fruit Picking

Who doesn’t love freshly picked fruit? There’s just something extra special when it comes to picking a blueberry off a push and popping it right into your mouth! Not a blueberry fan? No worries, you have plenty of options. At least here in MA, blueberries are picked from July until mid-August, peaches, nectarines, and pears from early August until mid-September, and raspberries from mid-August until late September. Jackpot! Bonus points for those couples who go home and bake a yummy treat with their pickings.

There’s nothing like taking in that fresh mountain air! We love a good hike. It gets the blood pumping and the sweat dripping. Plus, you’re rewarded with stunning views at the end. Seriously, what’s better than that?! Pick a short or a long route, whatever suits your fancy. If you opt for a longer trek, pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the top before heading back down. Don’t forget your camera for some fun and scenic shots, too!

Batting Cages or Driving Range

Step it up from your usual mini golf game and go big! Either try out the driving range or go a different direction and scope out the batting cages. These are both fun activities that can give you some laughs. Work on technique and see who can hit the ball the furthest!

Flea Market

There are so many hidden gems to be found at flea markets. Here in Western Massachusetts, we get spoiled with the Brimfield Flea Market three times a year! Not to fear, there are plenty of other flea markets all over the place, lots going on on a weekly basis. Even if you’re not looking to buy anything, it can be fun to walk around and explore a flea market. Check out all the unique and beautiful antiques available and who knows, maybe you’ll end up bringing something home!

Fire Up the Grill for Some Sweet Treats!

Summer is basically synonymous with grilling! We love ourselves a good BBQ. And while we love s’mores, it can be fun to switch it up and try something new, too! Since you’ll already have the grill fired up and warm, why not try a new grillable dessert recipe? While it’s not something we traditionally think to do, there are so many delicious desserts that you can make on your grill. We’re sharing our favorites with you today!

Blueberry Cobbler

  • 4 cups fresh blueberries
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 can Pillsbury Buttermilk Biscuits

  1. Heat up your grill over its medium setting or prepare charcoals for grilling.
  2. Wash the blueberries and transfer to a large mixing bowl. Add the sugar and flour and stir well to combine. Transfer the mixture to an 8"-square disposable baking pan.
  3. Place the pan onto the grill on direct heat and close the lid of the grill. Cook for 10 minutes, then stir briefly. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the blueberries have largely released their juices and the mixture has swelled up.
  4. Top the blueberry mixture with the biscuits in one layer. Close the lid of the grill and cook for 5-10 minutes, until golden brown.
  5. Remove the pan from the grill (carefully! it will be extremely hot). Let cool slightly before serving.

Grilled Doughnuts

  • 6 glazed yeast doughnuts
  • 6 TBSP unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1 pint ice cream
  • Fresh strawberries or raspberries
  • Toppings like fudge sauce, whipped cream, etc (optional)

  1. Turn a gas grill to medium heat, lower the cover, and preheat for 5-10 minutes, until hot.
  2. Slice the doughnuts in half, and spread the cut side of each doughnut with a thin layer of butter.
  3. Grill the doughnuts, cut side down first, for about 60 seconds per side. Watch them carefully, especially when the glazed side is down, since the sugar can go from nicely caramelized to burnt in no time. Grill times may vary, so it’s best to watch them throughout the cooking process.
  4. Once toasted on both sides, remove the doughnuts from the grill and let them cool until they’re warm but not hot. Top the warm doughnuts with a scoop of ice cream, fresh berries, and any other toppings you’d like, like fudge sauce or whipped cream. Serve immediately.

Get Adventurous This Summer with A New Kind of Lemonade

With the blazing heat of the summer, nothing is more refreshing than having a cold drink while soaking up sun rays. Lemonade is a delicious go to, but summer is about being adventurous! So, here’s a fresh twist on the classic beverage using peaches and raspberries from The Chunky Chef

For this recipe we’re going to divide the ingredients by the three different components. So starting with the raspberry peach puree you’ll need:

  • 4 fresh and pitted peaches cut into large chunks
  • 1 cup of fresh raspberries
  • 1 1/4 cups of water

For the lemonade you’ll need:

  • 7 cups of cold water
  • 1 1/4 cups of fresh lemon juice (this should be roughly four lemons)
  • Ice cubes

Lastly, for the simple syrup you’ll need:

  • 1 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of water

Start by adding all  the ingredients for the raspberry peach puree into a blender or food processor and blend them until it’s the same consistency as a puree. Place a sieve over a mixing bowl and pour the raspberry peach puree on top. Then use the back of a spoon to push the puree around, making sure the liquid falls into the bowl and the seeds are left behind on the sieve. Discard the seeds on top of the sieve and leave the mixing bowl aside for a moment. Add the simple syrup ingredients to a small saucepan and heat on a medium heat until the sugar has dissolved into the water, make sure to stir occasionally! Boil this for around three minutes and it should start to become a syrupy consistency, then set it aside to cool. In a large pitcher add the lemonade ingredients and stir till combined. Then pour in the raspberry peach liquid and cooled simple syrup and stir again until everything is combined. Store in the fridge until you serve it, feel free to garnish it with raspberries, peach slices, or mint leaves for an added flair!

Going to the beach is one of the highlights of summer. It’s meant to be a relaxing, fun filled day. However, if you forget something your day off takes an unnecessary stressful turn. Luckily we’ve come up with a checklist of essentials to make sure your beach bag is stocked full of everything you need!

It is SO important to stay hydrated during the summer. Having a cooler packed with ice and a ton of cold drinks is a necessity. Nothing feels better than cracking open a cold drink while getting your tan on!

Sun Protection

Although this is pretty much a given, it never hurts to have a reminder. Protecting your skin is essential year round, but even more so during the intense summers. Make sure to lather on some sunscreen and pop on a pair of sunglasses and hat before soaking up the sun rays! Check out our article on our favorite face sunscreens too! Don't forget those sunglasses and a nice oversized floppy hat to help protect your scalp, too.

Beach picnics are the cutest! Some classics are sandwiches, chips, fresh fruit, and ice cream are all great options.

Bathing Suit

Of course when you go to the beach you’re going to wear a bathing suit, but it’s important to bring the right bathing suit for you! Odds are you’ll probably be at the beach all day, so you want to make sure you’re comfortable.

Books & Music

If you plan on taking in the soothing scenery rather than splashing around in the waves, make sure to bring a good book or music playlist to help you unwind!

Add An Extra Pop with These Summer Nail Trends

Is it just us or does having freshly done nails make you feel ten times more put together and stylish? Summer is the perfect time to experiment with new colors and designs and go out of your comfort zone! Here’s some different nail inspirations for you to try at home!

Bright and Simple

Having a simple, solid color on your nails will still help to elevate your look. Go out of your comfort zone by trying a bright color like this one (it is summer after all)!

Sparkle and Shine

If you want a little more than just a solid color, add some sparkle! Glitter polish is an easy way to liven up any nail look. You can do a single accent nail on each hand, the whole hand, or even just use it as a top coat!

Ombre nails look incredibly impressive, and are surprisingly easy! Whether you want to do your whole hand or just an accent nail, these nails will always be an eyecatcher. Start by painting your nail white and let it dry. Paint around your nail and down to your fist knuckle with either glue or liquid latex and let dry. Next, take a triangular beauty sponge and create an ombre with at least two polishes. Dab the sponge on the nail and repeat until you reach the desired opacity. Peel of the barrier around the nail and add a top coat!

Get Funky with These S'mores Twists!

S’mores are a traditional staple of summertime. You can never go wrong with the choice to make some, but it never hurts to experiment with different options. Here’s some new twists on the classic s’more!

Peanut Butter Cup S’more

Instead of using chocolate between your marshmallow and graham crackers, put a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup instead!

Chocolate Chip Cookie S’more

Use some yummy chocolate chip cookies to hold your s’more together!

Caramel Apple S’more

For a “healthier” alternative, use two cored thinly cut Granny Smith apples slices in the place of graham crackers. Take one slice, add your chocolate, marshmallows, and drizzle a bit caramel before placing the second apple slice on top!

If you have a little more time on your hands and want to branch out more, here are some other s’more inspired treats!

S’more Pizza

Mind blown, right? For this recipe you’ll need:

  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cup mini marshmallows

Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. In bowl mix all your dry ingredients.

In mixer, mix the butter and sugars until they are well incorporated (around 2 minutes). Next, add the vanilla and egg into the mixer and mix them well. Scrape down sides of the mixer, then add in dry ingredients and mix until everything is combined. Take this dough out of the mixer and place it onto a pizza pan and press it out. Bake this for 12 minutes until it’s golden brown. After it’s done, sprinkle the chocolate chips on the hot crust and let it sit for about 5 minutes.

In the meantime turn the oven to broil. Then spread melted chocolate chips over crust like a sauce and top with marshmallows. Finally, broil for 5 mins until marshmallows are just browned. Make sure it eat it right away and enjoy!

S’mores Bark

Who said bark is just for the wintertime? For this you’ll need melted milk chocolate, melted white chocolate, graham crackers, mini marshmallows, and chocolate bars!

Start by placing wax paper in a pan, make sure it completely covers the bottom and sides of the pan. Next, pour in the melted milk chocolate and tilt the pan around to make sure it covers the whole bottom. Then drizzle a bit of the melted white chocolate on top and use a toothpick to marble the two chocolates together. Break off bits of graham crackers and scatter it throughout the chocolate. Repeat this step with the mini marshmallows and bits of chocolate bar. Refrigerate this for an hour and you’re bark is ready!

BBQ 101: The Complete Guide to Your Summer Outdoor Entertaining

School’s ending and those summer feelings are starting to hit us… hard! We’re so ready for the warmer weather and all the outdoor entertaining over the next few months. It’s easy to fall into the same routine with your outdoor activities, which is totally fine, but sometimes it’s fun to switch things up and try something new. In the spirit of trying something new, we’re sharing our favorite ways to switch up your summer barbeque for you to try this year.

If you’re hosting a BBQ, it’s pretty much assumed that there’s going to be grilling going on. While we love the classic combo of burgers and dogs, there are tons of other great meal options you can test out, too. Try some smokey ribs, or grilled shrimp! We love having a variety of sides too. Whip up some pasta salads, a nice garden salad, some corn on the cob and baked beans. Depending on the size of your crowd, make it into a potluck and have everyone bring their favorite summer side dish to take some of the burden off of yourself.

It’s not all about the food, you need activities too! We loooove activities. There are so many things you can do, even if you’re confined to a smaller space. We love yard games. Things like corn hole and ladder toss are classic favorites. Or go old school and throw around the football or frisbee. If you have plenty of space, play a little game of wiffle ball! There are so many options when it comes to the great outdoors. If you have a fire pit, get that fire started around dinner time. Not only does it give off some great ambiance, but who doesn’t love making some s’mores?!

An outdoor backyard event can still be set nicely. Maybe you don’t want to go all out with table linens, which is totally fine, and you can still set a nice spread without them! How about an upscale picnic feel? Set up some blankets in a general eating area for your guests to lounge on while they chat and eat that delicious food you’ve worked so hard on.

Summer Wedding Footwear & Advice on Summer Surfaces

You’ve decided on your wedding venue, picked out your dress, and now it’s time for shoes! Having a summer wedding means your free to have all the open-toe options and you also have the option to even go barefoot!

Before picking shoes, it’s important to know your venue and the surfaces you’ll be walking on. As we all know, heels and grass do not mix well. That also applies with heels in sand. Don’t fret – this does not mean you can’t wear those heels you’ve been eyeing! If you’re getting married on the beach and want to wear heels, opt for a boardwalk aisle so you won’t be sinking in the sand. If you’re getting married in a backyard or on a lawn, you can also make an aisle runner on which you won’t sink in the ground; however, if you want the natural look, ditch the heels and wear chunky wedges, beautiful flats, sandals, or even the new trending barefoot sandals!

Summer Wedding Guest Fashion

Now that you’ve been invited to a wedding, it’s time to decide what to wear! Attending a wedding in the summer means you have a wide range of outfit options! From summery florals to bright pops of color, you’ll be the next best looking person in the room (next to the bride, of course)!

image courtesy of : hello his

image courtesy of : hello his

Have some fun with your dress and go for floral patterns! With a patterned dress like florals, you don’t need to have statement jewelry, for your dress is a statement itself! Chances are, you can also re-wear this dress as a sundress throughout the summer!

The bride’s not the only one who gets to rock lace on her big day! There are so many cute summer dresses with lace textures, you’ll have a hard time choosing which one to wear! Pair with some cute earrings and a clutch!

Brighten up this summer day even more with some bold pops of color! With colors such as hot pink and vibrant orange, it’s going to be hard not to take the attention off of the bride!

Summer Beach Bag Essentials

Finally, our favorite season is upon us! It’s time to throw on some flip flops and head to the beach! Since going to the beach is an all-day event, it’s important to know exactly what to pack in that cute beach bag of yours. Aside from the obvious, such as beach towels and sunglasses, we put together a list of our top beach bag essentials for summer 2017.

Even though we all want that sun kissed tan, it’s SO important to wear sunscreen! Don’t forget to reapply throughout the day, and it doesn’t hurt to pack a little SPF lip balm to avoid burnt lips! In addition, grab some protection for your hair. With products such as Sun Bum leave in conditioner, you’ll leave the beach with soft and hydrated hair.

Nothing is more relaxing than catching up on some reading with the ocean waves in the background. Whether on your kindle or a classic hard cover, be sure to buy some reading material to enjoy on your beach day!

Whether you bring headphones, speakers, or even your own guitar, having music at the beach surrounded by your friends is a great way to spend your beach day! Go the extra mile and get a waterproof speaker (and of course, be sure to be mindful of your beach neighbors with your music).

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Be sure to drink enough water throughout the day, as the sun dehydrates you! In addition to bringing water, it’s also smart to carry along a cooler to keep your drinks nice and cool (and to store some beach snacks, too). Get one of our favorite S’well water bottles here!
