This summer’s trends are most certainly like no others, and the revival of 90’s, 80’s and even 70’s fashion elements over recent years continues. But what we love the most is that many of this season’s trends are entirely unique to this time period. Summer is the perfect time to get creative with new clothing, and these trends are easy to fall for! Our favorites include two piece sets, faux leather, polos (remember those?) and more. Some of which, you might already have in your closet!
TWO PIECE SETS
Two piece sets are a great way to create a cohesive going out or casual look. A two piece set is made up of a top and either a set of shorts, a skirt, or pants of the same print. Two pieces with shorts and skirts are perfect for a day at the beach while pants are warm enough for a night on the town. We love a two piece set the most because of how free-flowing, easy, and comfortable they are. Make a statement by choosing a two piece set that has a currently trending print like gingham, plaid, or stripes on it.
Platform sandals are one of our favorite trends because they are the perfect way to easily transform any summer outfit to another level. One major perk is that they give you the same height that heels do-except without the incline! However, they do take some adjusting, so be careful! Naturally we aren’t used to having a couple inches of a sandal underneath our feet, so take the time to practice wearing them around the house before you wear them to an outing. Once you’ve had some practice, pair them with your favorite summer outfit for the ultimate look.
Faux leather is hitting shops all around the world because of its popularity this season. Particularly in the form of leather jackets, skirts, and for the more rebellious fashionistas -pants. Faux leather is a great way to add a fun new material to your wardrobe. While it’s not the most breathable, faux leather can quickly spice up an outfit by adding some drama and creating a statement with a timeless 50’s feel. Plus, what fashionista doesn’t need a classic leather jacket in their closet?
MID LENGTH DRESSES
Nothing says summer like a cute sundress, but maxi dresses can be too warm and easy to trip on, while shorter dresses can get cold as the temperatures drop at night. Mid length dresses offer all the style of a sundress but with so much more versatility! Tastefully cut at around the calf area, these dresses are the fashion trend straight out of our boho dreams. They can be worn on fancy and casual occasions, and with their length, they are the perfect way to add some extra covering on colder nights. Match your favorite mid-length dress with a floppy sun hat or better yet- with platform sandals to create a stylish 70’s look!
SQUARE TOED SANDALS
Square toed sandals have been particularly popular among fashion bloggers and the social media world this season. They are exactly what they sound like- your classic wrap sandal or flip flop, except with a toe that is square-shaped. Their petite design makes them easy to throw on for a stroll downtown or to the beach. These beauties add a unique but subtle finish to any summer outfit and aren’t much bulkier than your regular flip flop either-a perfect space saver for your summer travels!
WIDE LEG PANTS
Wide leg pants are similar to culottes, but most frequently made of denim or khaki material. However, they are free flowing and flare out at the bottom to allow easy movement. Wide leg pants are the perfect summer capri because of their comfortability and flattering fit. We especially love them because of the wide range of materials and colors they come in. From regular denim, to bright pink khaki, wide leg pants have surely stolen our hearts and taken over our closets!
Mom shorts are the perfect way to bring a casual summer outfit to the next level. This trend comes straight out of the 90’s and serves as the cropped summer version of the beloved mom jeans. Mom shorts are oversized, baggier and a bit longer than the jean shorts we are used to from past summer trends. And the more spacious they are, the better! Mom shorts allow for easier movement and a much more comfortable day to day summer look than skin tight shorts would. Plus, who doesn’t want to channel inner Friends character and fashion icon, Rachel Green, every now and again?
For longer than we can remember, polos have floated in and out of style as years go by. But for the summer of 2020, these timeless tops with their classic collars are back! Polos have been a summer go-to look for decades, because of their easy ability to dress up a casual outfit. Match your favorite polo with a pair of mom shorts or even a denim skirt to create a preppy summer look, perfect for a night out, a trip to the country club, or a walk downtown.
