Do you ever feel like you have been firing on all cylinders non-stop? Or maybe you’re completely exhausted? We’ve all been there, and we have two words for you: self care. It’s so important to take some time to step back, relax, breathe, and focus on yourself for a little bit. Even if you can spare one hour, we promise you’ll reap the rewards. We’ve all heard the analogy of filling your cup, and it exists for a reason! Taking some time to focus back on yourself will help prevent you from reaching the point of burning out while also catering to your mental and physical health. You can’t help others or operate at your best if you aren’t taking care of yourself first. To help you get started, we’re sharing some of our favorite ways that we love to recharge and pamper ourselves without leaving the house!
Diffuse Essential Oils
Diffusing essential oils is soooo good for you! Not only do they smell amazing, but they have so many benefits you’re probably not even aware of. They can aid in sleep and relaxation, elevating your mood, preventing illness, making it easier to breathe, relieving pain, and more. There are a wide variety of brands and types of oils out there, so make sure you’re buying quality, 100% essential oils. They may cost you a little more, but you don’t want fillers! Different oils will affect you in different ways. If you’re looking for something relaxing, try lavender. If you have any congestion or need some stress and tension relief, try eucalyptus. And did you know that one of the many benefits of diffusing peppermint is that it can actually help with headaches? We highly recommend investing in a pretty diffuser and some nice oils, this is an easy option that you can have going while you’re still living your life and doing things around the house.
Give Yourself a Mani/Pedi
Having a fresh manicure makes us feel like we’re ready to take on the world! Are you the same way? Save yourself a little cash and give yourself a mani/pedi at home! It doesn’t take much for a successful mani/pedi. We like to include a nice little sugar scrub on our hands and feet to really give that pampered feel. This is a great option for a girls night in or even if you have little ones at home. Treat yourself to a new color to match the season or stick with a classic — personally, we don’t think you can ever go wrong with a nice deep red on your toes!
Take a Bubble Bath
There’s just something about sinking into a nice warm bubble bath that instantly relaxes you. This is a great way to step away for some “me time” in a hectic schedule. Everyone needs to bathe! Set aside a little extra time in your evening and soak your stress away. We love to set the mood with some candles and soothing music. Treat yourself to a nice bath bomb or some delicious bubble bath. Close your eyes and let the warm water relax your muscles. If you’re a bookworm, this is a great time to catch up on that book, too! Our biggest piece of advice? Keep the electronics away! Not only do you risk dropping them into the water, but this is the perfect opportunity to unplug and enjoy some time away from the screens.
Drink Hot Lemon Water
No one wants or has time to be sick! Fall and winter are breeding grounds for colds and flus, and being sick in the summer is just miserable when you should be out enjoying the sun. Our easy, natural (and yummy!) protectant? Hot lemon water! We know, it sounds too simple, but seriously, this easy drink is so soothing and helps with your immunity and digestion. That’s why we recommend you start your day with a tall mug and try to keep the habit up throughout your week. Hydration in general is something most people struggle with, so heating up your water and adding some natural flavor to it can also disguise it a bit for those non-water drinkers. You should be drinking half your body weight in ounces of water each day! If you’re looking to add some more flavor and increase the benefit, try a little bit of honey and/or ginger.
Use a Moisturizing Face Mask
Keeping your skin well moisturized and hydrated is super important and something many people overlook until it’s too late! That’s why we like to regularly use a super moisturizing face mask to help repair and care for our skin. Skincare is an important part of any routine, so make sure you’re consciously making moves to work different aspects into your regular routine. When you’re done with your mask, lock in that moisture with a great daily moisturizer. You’ll look and feel refreshed in no time!
There are so many great things you can do to pamper yourself on a weekend, or habits you can develop throughout your daily routine that will make an impact on your mental and physical health. We hope these few get you started on your self care journey!
