Wow. The world seems to be moving a million miles a minute right now and the amount of information in the media is so overwhelming. On top of worrying about your health, some now also have to worry about their weddings. First off, if your wedding is being affected by the coronavirus, we are so sorry you’re dealing with this. But, we and so many other resources are here to help! Take a deep breath, we will make it through this. It may feel like the world is ending, and our hearts break for you and all the planning you have been doing for what feels like forever. Let’s break down the steps you can take to figure things out:
Step 1: Contact Your Venue
This is key. Have patience, they’re probably overwhelmed right now too. See what your options are. Can you cancel, can you reschedule for later this year or next year? Review your contract. Most have a clause regarding Force Majeure, which some vendors are considering this outbreak to fall under. Be open and honest with your venue, everyone is still trying to navigate these waters. Open communication is key.
Step 2: Contact The Rest of Your Vendors
Similar to your venue, review all your contracts and reach out to each of your vendors individually. See what their allowances are. If you were able to get options for new dates from your venue, see what works for the rest of your vendors. Work to adjust your contracts to reflect new dates or see if you can come to an agreement if things need to be canceled.
Step 3: Update Your Guests
If you haven’t sensed the theme here yet, we’ll lay it out for you: communication is key. Keep your lines of communication open. Let your guests know that the wedding is being postponed due to the virus. Update them with your plan. If you have a wedding website, this is a great place to refer people to and keep posting updates in one central location.
At the end of the day, the biggest things to remember are communication and to stay calm. When you’re planning a wedding, you never expect to have to throw it all out the window and make such major changes. It stinks! But you can do this and you will get through this. We promise, you will still have the wedding of your dreams!
