Doesn’t everyone love a fall wedding? We certainly do! There are so many options when it comes to you color scheme. One of our favorite picks for a fall wedding is a moody color palette. What is a moody color palette? Don’t let the word “moody” turn you off! This can be interpreted in many ways, but we like to think of it as being filled with rich, deep jewel tones that give a warm feeling. This coloring works great with fall and winter weddings versus a more whimsical feeling summer or spring wedding which tends to lend to brighter, fresher cool colors. One of our favorite ways to incorporate your colors into your wedding is through your invitation suite. Your wedding invitation should be a reflection of your wedding style and vision for the day. If you think a moody invitation set may be in your future, there are a few things to think about and keep an eye out for in your hunt.
Colors
Color is king when it comes to a moody look and feel for your wedding. Like we said, you want to focus on the deep jewel tones. What falls under that umbrella? Colors like emerald green, navy, burgundy, and plum are some great classics. These colors play well with each other and are so rich and warm, which makes them perfect for the fall season. If you’re looking to make a bold impact, think about even going with black or a dark grey. Combine them with other warm tones and neutrals to complete your palette. Think creams, burnt oranges, and blushes. If you’re worried about being too moody or dark, think about incorporating a small pop of brightness. When a lighter or cooler color is mixed in, it can really make an impact.
Accents
While a monochromatic palette can be stunning, we love adding in some nice accents to compliment our moody invitation sets. One of our favorite options? Metallics! Adding a pop of silver, gold, or even rose gold creates such an awesome contrast against the dark moody color palette. If you’re a couple on a budget, we recommend looking at options other than metallics, as adding foil to your suite usually incurs an additional cost.
If you’re looking for options other than metallics, we have some other cool effects for you to consider. First off, a paint stroke effect. We’re huge fans of a paint brush look. In spring and summer suites with those lighter and more whimsical colors, you tend to see a lot of watercolor effect. We love a spin on that with the painted look. Whether it’s just an accent, or a bold statement, or even a simple border, this look can really create that “wow” moment.
Another bold accent? Florals! While some grooms may be against something floral-y, we think this is another fun way to add a little something to your invitations. If you’re looking to potentially lighten things up with a little bit of whimsy to balance out your darker, moody palette, florals can be a great way to go.
Level Up
If you’re someone really looking to take your moody invite suite to the next level and create something unique and beautiful, look no further. We have some fun ideas to really spice things out that are out of the box and your guests are sure to love! Our first show stopper is a very dark — or even black — background with either white or metallic writing. Talk about a pop! We love the vibes this inversion gives out. It’s such a modern and fun feel and really sets you apart from the crowd.
If you’re someone who’s looking to stick with a more simple or monochromatic invitation, or just to extend the fun, we highly recommend looking into lined envelopes! This trend is on the upswing and we love it! This is another one that most likely will result in a slightly higher cost, but we think it can be totally worth it. Your invitation suite is something you want to create a lasting memory with, and a lined envelope just enhances the experience overall.
Another fun option is to play with different textures and patterns. Finding something with an almost 3D effect gives a very unique and modern vibe. Even something as simple as selecting a more textured paper (even linen) over a simple cardstock can set you apart. Along this line, you can also play with different fonts. While it may feel like a small detail, choosing the font used on your invitations can really set the mood. Play around with different options and see what feels right before just settling on one!
