There are so many fun aspects to the wedding planning process. Identifying your precise bridal style is one of our favorite parts! You’ve picked your dress and your shoes, and now’s the time to focus on how to style your hair for your wedding day. Keep in mind that while there are tons of options for how you want to style your hair, but that you also want to think about things like the style of your dress and season your wedding is in. Try looking up images of your wedding dress, or a similar style, to see how different brides have opted to wear their hair. This may help you narrow down the many options if you’re overwhelmed with how much is out there! Depending on the length of your hair and whether or not you plan to accessorize with things like a veil, tiara, or flowers, there are three distinct categories we’re going to break down as options for your wedding hairstyle.
Updos are a classic and elegant way for a bride to wear her hair. This is a look for a bride who doesn’t want to be bothered with adjusting her hair at any point during the day. With enough hairspray and bobby pins, you won’t have to worry about a single hair being out of place and can focus on enjoying your big day! Sound like you? Opt for an up-do! There are so many different ways to pull your hair back for your wedding day. Whether it be a simple, modern twist or up with a few stray curls, your hair will look fabulous and chic. Spruce your look up with some flowers, hair pins, or braids for a little something extra.
Updos are definitely for brides with medium to long length hair. So, if you’re a bride currently in the midst of wedding planning and have your heart set on an updo, it’s time to stop cutting that hair! Check in with your hairdresser or the stylist you plan to use on your wedding day and see if they think the look you’re going for is achievable with you current hair length. If not, what are your options? Will you be able to grow it out in time, or is it a look that can be achieved with the addition of some extensions?
We love an updo for a bride rocking a backless dress! What’s the point of having such a wow-worthy feature if it’s hidden by your luscious locks? Along those lines, we are also big fans of a simple updo if you’re a bride who chooses a very detailed or intricate dress. That way, you keep your dress the star of the show.
Girl, let your hair down! One of the best parts of keeping your hair down? It works whether you have short or long hair. There are also a surprising amount of options here… despite what some may think, this is anything but boring! A bride who wears her hair down is someone who doesn’t want to deal with all the fuss and work that goes into an updo. She’s looking for something that’s more natural feeling and relaxed. To match that sentiment, we love a simple old-Hollywood glam look with subtle waves. Or, if you’re more modern, go for a straightened look.
There are so many options other than just simply wearing your hair down that technically fall into this category too! You can play with a low side ponytail or braid. Braids are a fun way to have your hair styled and contained while still more casual and less styled.
You can also still accessorize with your hair down. Why leave all the fun to the girls with an updo? Swoop your hair off to the side with a hair piece, find a glam headband, or rock those boho feels with a stunning flower crown!
If you’re completely torn between these two main categories, a half up type style may be right for you. You’ll still have the feel and look of your hair down in the back, with the benefit of not having your hair in your face. This is the perfect option for someone who loves the look of their hair down but finds that they’re always playing with it or struggling to keep it in place and out of their eyes. By pulling part of your hair back and securing it, there’s no need to mess with it or worry about something getting messed up and instead you can just enjoy!
A half up look is a great opportunity to play with braids! Can you tell that we love braids? Because we are completely smitten. They add a fun extra element to your look in such a simplistic way. We also love a good curled half up look. There’s something so fun about bouncing curls — especially when you don’t have to worry about them falling into your face. If you’re a more modern bride, you can play with a half up bun, too!
Still struggling with your look? We totally get it, there are so many options and ideas out there! Our best advice is two-fold: talk to your Maid of Honor or person who knows you best and see what their thoughts are and also connect with your hairdresser or stylist for the big day and get their opinion! As a professional, they should be able to give you some insight and some suggestions that you may not have thought of on your own. Have an open mind and most important of all, have fun! This is your big day and you deserve to enjoy it!
