Choosing a wedding favor to give out to your lovely guests may seem a bit daunting. In fact, there are many couples who are opting out of the tradition and skipping favors all together. If you fall in the group that wants to find a small gift to give to your wedding guests, we’re here to help. Whether you’re looking for something more easy and generic, or a little more in-depth and personalized, there are so many options to choose from. There are a couple of categories to consider in making your decision: do you want your favor to be seasonal, do you want your favors to be edible, or maybe living like a plant, or do you want them to be something that’s incorporated with the event itself — like a seating assignment. This sounds like a lot of information, but choosing a wedding favor doesn’t have to be that stressful! We’ve gathered a bunch of budget friendly options to help you get those juices flowing.
Seasonal Wedding Favors
Depending on the season of your wedding, it can be really fun to choose favors to match the feel and season of your big day. For example, fall weddings are a great opportunity to play into the season! Favors can be things like mini pies, maple syrup, or caramel apples. Basically anything pumpkin or apple is fair game here. If you’re having a late fall or winter wedding, pashmina blankets add a nice touch. This is something you can have incorporated in your event, too! Have a basket of blankets out for the ceremony in case any of your guests get chilly, and then they can take one home. Candles are another great option for the cooler weather. Choose a scent that matches the feel of your event, and personalize the top with a sticker with your names and the wedding date for a special touch that doesn’t break the bank.
For spring weddings, we love a favor with some life. We’ll dive deeper into this below, but there’s just something about new growth that ties in perfectly with the spring season and the start of a new phase in your life! Summer weddings also have a wide variety of options. Beach weddings can tie in aspects like shells, sea glass, and even sand. For us, nothing quite says summer like s’mores! We have seen some really fun s’mores building kits given to guests as their wedding favors and it is always a hit.
Edible Wedding Favors
Edible wedding favors are a classic option with so many fun spins — this isn’t your stereotypical Jordan almond situation. Couples have really taken this idea and run with it to create some memorable favors. You can put pretty much anything you want here! Some of our favorites? We love a “his and hers” moment here. A little taste of her favorite candy paired with a taste of his. Or many you’re having an adults-only event? Bring on the nips!
If you’re big into puns, there are a lot of things you can do here to play on words. We love a simple “Hugs and Kisses” bag filled with Hershey’s Hugs and Kisses. Or if you’re a couple really into coffee, “Grounds for Celebration” works perfectly on a bag of coffee grounds! Maybe you’d like to thank your guests for “popping by” with some popcorn. We should quit while we’re ahead before things get too cheesy… but we do love a good pun!
Integrated Wedding Favors
Choosing a wedding favor that you can integrate into your wedding itself is a great way to still provide a favor while still maintaining your budget. We love a good 2-for-1! There are lots of ways you can achieve this streamline. As mentioned above, think about things like blankets at the ceremony, or in the summer maybe sun umbrellas to keep guests out of direct sunlight. Another popular option is providing a basket of flip flops for the ladies to switch out of their heels before dancing the night away. Bubbles to blow at the ceremony, or even a soundtrack of the music played at your event… there are tons of options to really tie things together.
By far, the most popular way we see favors integrated is through some sort of seating assignment. Things like succulents are growing in popularity, but there are so many other avenues as well. We’ve seen some stunning Himalayan salt shot glasses, personalized with guests names. If you’re a big world traveler, consider using luggage tags in your seating chart display. Everyone gets a new luggage tag to bring home and they’ll think of you every time they travel.
Living Wedding Favors
As we mentioned above, living wedding favors are one of our favorite options for a spring wedding, but they work great for any time of year. The biggest player in this category would have to be plants. Most popular as of late: succulents. These hardy plants tend to not need as much water and come in some really fun and unique shapes, sizes, and colors, making them a really cool option. We’ve seen some really fun succulent walls where guests can choose their own plant to take home with them. This is also another opportunity to integrate your favors into your event itself. Many couples attach a name tag and table number to the flower pot as a way to combine guest seating and favors to one element.
There’s a great opportunity for signage with a living wedding favor, too! We love little phrases like “let love grow” or if you’re on the sassier side, “our lives would ‘succ’ without you.”
