With the constantly changing environment thanks to the COVID-19 virus, many wedding plans have been turned upside down. Couples have been reacting in a variety of ways, shifting their plans to a new, later date, opting for a courthouse or virtual wedding, or eloping! While all options have their pros and cons, today we’re going to talk about elopements and why we think they’re a great option, especially right now.
What is an elopement?
Traditionally speaking, an elopement is a wedding that happens suddenly and secretly, typically just the two of you and in a destination-type location, basically just not close to your usual stomping grounds. More recently, the term has come to have a slightly different meaning and updated with the times. When we think about elopements today, we think of extremely small and intimate weddings, sometimes still planned with short notice. Two factors that play perfectly with the restrictions in place due to COVID-19.
What we love
Elopements are so special. Whether you choose to keep it just the two of you or include immediate family members, this event is one that is so small and intimate, but still just as magical. You can still have a beautiful ceremony and create lasting memories, but at a fraction of the price. If you are not throwing a huge wedding with a hundred people, costs will drop off significantly. This is another huge pro for eloping, especially with so much job uncertainty right now. If you are someone who has decided to postpone their wedding festivities until a later date for the health and safety of your guests, we highly suggest you consider eloping on your original date!
As much as we love a good wedding, at the end of the day it is the love and the marriage that matter most. COVID-19 cannot stop the love and the marriage! Some people are open to shifting to a courthouse wedding, or maybe it’s more your style to move forward with a virtual wedding, but we truly love the feel and experience of an elopement. With all the craziness in the world right now, venues and vendors are forced to adapt and roll with the punches. Because of this, there are some amazing deals out there on elopement packages. Honestly, if you’re someone who is currently engaged and hasn’t started planning a wedding yet, consider planning an elopement! We’re suckers for a good deal (who isn’t?) and pairing a good deal with love and joy… it doesn’t get much better than that.
